Understanding Goods and Services

Integrate social studies and ELA standards as students become business owners in a small-town shopping district. Students develop literacy skills such as speaking and listening as they collaborate in their roles, and strengthen reading and writing skills as they make logical inferences from readings.

Students will employ economic concepts such as supply and demand as they attempt to provide goods and services that consumers want. When they realize they are not making enough money, the unit's critical incident motivates them to step up to the plate and strategize how to bring in more revenue.
