The Visitors' Center

Nail ELA and social studies standards as students create a story about a state's visitors' center. Students develop strong literacy and map-reading skills as they compose text and locate resources and images for a state tourism brochure.

Students develop critical-thinking skills as they organize ideas about tourism into persuasive slogans. When students realize that the state tourism revenue is in bad condition, they must discuss ways to boost it in the unit's critical incident, which is designed to deepen their understanding of economic concepts such as supply-and-demand and advertising.
