FAMILIES IN THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD
What is a neighborhood? How do families live and work together? What are family traditions? How do communities solve problems? In this unit students create a neighborhood with families, homes, and businesses. Problems develop when the neighborhood becomes littered and a speeding car injures a neighbor. Students will learn about civic participation and the efforts necessary to make a neighborhood safe. A complete print unit includes a teacher's handbook, 35 student portfolios, and six class sets of content cards (8–12 cards per set). A complete digital unit includes a teacher's handbook, and a CD with reproducible student portfolios, and content slides. The entire unit may be downloaded as an ebook. Grades 1–3.
