Students simulate the creation of a visitor center for tourists to their state. A 63-page teacher's guide, complete and well-organized, leads the way as students discuss what a visitor center should do and decide where they would like to locate their own imaginary visitor center. They daydream who they will become as grown-ups, then write resumes and conduct job interviews to get their future-selves hired as visitor center employees. Finally, they research their state's tourist attractions to design an advertising campaign and create tourism brochures. A complete print unit includes a teacher's handbook, 35 student portfolios, and six class sets of content cards (8–12 cards per set). A complete digital unit includes a teacher's handbook, and a CD with reproducible student portfolios, and content slides. The entire unit may be downloaded as an ebook. Grades 3–5. Time required: 3–4 weeks (usually 30–60 minutes per day). ©2006.
