Why do communities have parades? What makes people of various cultures special? Students explore the cultural diversity of their community by creating a story about parades and becoming the parade planners in their story. They work together to design and plan the parade, as well as develop the characters in the parade. As planners, students learn how to overcome objections to the parade route. This unit can be easily adopted for different themes. A complete print unit includes a teacher's handbook, 35 student portfolios, and six class sets of content cards (8–12 cards per set).
