Students build a Wampanoag community in Massachusetts to investigate the traditional life of the Wampanoags and the Thanksgiving celebration. By imagining life in a Wampanoag village, students build an understanding of the time and place in history. Settlers arrive from far away and have difficulty adjusting to their new surroundings. Students learn the events that led to the Pilgrim's first Thanksgiving and how the two groups of people came together. A complete print unit includes a teacher's handbook, 35 student portfolios, and six class sets of content cards (8–12 cards per set). A complete digital unit includes a teacher's handbook, and a CD with reproducible student portfolios, and content slides. The entire unit may be downloaded as an ebook. Grades 1–3. ©2006.
