Students investigate the culture of the ancient Egyptians by creating a story about a community that lived in the Nile Valley. In a role-playing scenario, students become characters who take part in daily life, make trades in the marketplace, and call a town meeting to respond to a drought. After the drought ends and the crops return, the students plan a banquet appropriate for ancient Egypt. The scenario is designed to take 2–6 hours (the complete unit takes 4–6 weeks) and can be easily modified. The complete unit includes a teacher's handbook, 35 student portfolios, and six class sets of 11 content cards. Grades 5–8. ©2006.
